Staff Training.
It is a membership requirement that all staff and volunteers of local Clubs are trained annually on the local Club’s required comprehensive safety policies.
How It Works.
Introduce.
Training is used to introduce Youth Development Professionals to youth in their community. Staff learn about and become aware of common risks and behaviors. Clubs participate in a wide variety of child safety training conducted through seminars, conferences, webinars and a semi-annual safety symposium. We also engage leading third-party safety experts to provide guidance for our policies and approaches, including Praesidium, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and the National Children’s Advocacy Center.
Interact.
Training helps Youth Development Professionals learn how to design, facilitate, and create an environment that supports Hands-on learning. We want our Club staff to know how to engage in positive interactions with youth based on the diverse experiences that occur in a Boys & Girls Clubs. It is imperative that staff develop a culture of understanding and compassion with our youth, and that Club members and staff alike have fun while doing so. We want everyone feel successful in their role.
Engage.
Educating staff prior to hands-on interaction is just the first step of training. The next step is being face-to-face with Club members. The goal is to develop positive relationships, and share in common experiences. Staff work hard to build safe spaces for youth to thrive. By providing a safe-haven, with caring mentors, and life enhancing programs, Club members have the resources and skills needed to plan for great futures. They reach their potential and emerge prepared for all sorts of possibilities--ready to impact the world.
