Though the parades were cancelled in New Orleans, Club Kids were able to share their traditions nationwide as participants in the Mardi Gras for All Y’all virtual celebration. Events included music, parades, entertainment, cuisine, and more.  Live broadcasts took place February 12-14, 2021. Our very own Board Member, Marcus Spears, joined the celebration to promote the impacts that Boys & Girls Clubs have throughout the state of Louisiana. If you missed the live events, tune in below to watch now!

Coming soon to nola.com: Tune in Feb. 12-14 for three nights of start-studded programming, showcasing the best of New Orleans and Mardi Gras.

King Cake at a distance with the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana

We all know that Mardi Gras is the best time of the year for all here in Louisiana. Staff and Volunteers at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana worked hard to keep Club Youth healthy Mardi Gras season 2021. Social distancing and following health guidelines, they celebrated their favorite tradition: King Cake Friday’s! Masks on and forks in hand, New Orleans youth are learned about the history of the holiday, made crafts and ate big slices of locally made King Cake. Cream-filled, Extra frosting, or Traditional style, there was enough King Cake for everyone to enjoy!

Bringing the party to the students

Staff at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge decorated their Club Bus in green, gold and purple beads, masked-up, and headed out to partnering schools to give Baton Rouge youth the Mardi Gras parade experience they were all missing this season! Club kids were pleasantly surprised and excited to make a new tradition this year.
